Our Mission

The Texas Law Enforcement Association was founded in 2025 in response to growing legislative efforts to divide Texas Peace Officers by classification and employment status. One such proposal, House Bill 3846, sought to limit the authority of non-full-time peace officers, those who serve their communities in part-time or volunteer capacities, despite the fact that all peace officers in Texas complete the same state-mandated training, pass the same licensing examination, and hold the same TCOLE Peace Officer License under Occupations Code Chapter 1701.
TLEA was created to ensure that no future legislation redefines a peace officer’s authority based on pay status, agency type, or title. Our purpose is to defend the integrity of the Texas Peace Officer License and to uphold the belief that one license should mean one standard of authority for all who serve.
This mission has only become more important.
Subsequent legislation, such as Senate Bill 2143, has shown how new laws can restrict the authority of fully licensed officers granting the title of “peace officer” while limiting their ability to act under it. These statutory carve-outs weaken the profession, create unequal treatment among officers, and erode the foundation of statewide professional standards.
TLEA stands united for every TCOLE-licensed peace officer, advocating for equal recognition, professional opportunity, and full legal authority across the profession.
