About TLEA

The Texas Law Enforcement Association was founded to give a unified voice to peace officers across Texas, from large urban departments to the smallest rural towns. Every licensed peace officer completes the same basic academy training, maintains the same yearly continuing education, and meets the same licensing requirements through TCOLE. We believe that all officers deserve the same respect and recognition, regardless of whether they serve in a full-time or non-full-time capacity.

Our mission is to advocate for fairness, professionalism, and local control in Texas law enforcement. Too often, small-town officers and agencies are overlooked in state policy discussions, while large departments and unions dominate the conversation. TLEA exists to ensure that the challenges faced by smaller and rural agencies are represented and valued at the state level.

Through the TLEA Political Action Committee (PAC), we support candidates, regardless of political party, who stand for common-sense reforms, protection of local control, and equal treatment of all peace officers. We oppose legislation that divides the profession by employment classification and advocate for laws that strengthen, rather than overregulate, policing in Texas.

TLEA was founded in response to such legislation, including House Bill 3846 (2025), which sought to redefine the authority of non-full-time officers.
Our organization continues to monitor and challenge any policy that undermines the integrity of the Texas Peace Officer License.

TLEA also champions reforms that promote training access and professional growth. We believe officers should have affordable, high-quality training opportunities; agencies should have the ability to conduct more in-house instruction; and interagency cooperation should be encouraged.
We push for policies that reduce costs, simplify compliance, and build officer morale so that all peace officers regardless of department size or resources can reach their full professional potential.

At TLEA, we stand on a simple principle: every peace officer matters, and every community deserves law enforcement that reflects its values.
We are united under one vision—Equal Standards. Equal Service. Equal Respect.

TLEA PAC

The Texas Law Enforcement Association Political Action Committee (TLEA PAC) is the advocacy arm of TLEA, dedicated to supporting candidates who respect and protect Texas peace officers. We are nonpartisan and focus on backing leaders who believe in local control, equal treatment for all officers regardless of pay status, and common-sense reforms that strengthen, not overregulate, law enforcement.

TLEA PAC stands against efforts to reorganize policing by salary or agency size and opposes giving undue influence to large unions at the expense of small departments. We work to ensure that every peace officer’s voice is heard at the Capitol and that legislation reflects the needs of communities across Texas.

Our principle is simple: we support the best candidates who will protect the profession of policing and the officers who serve.
